Performs all facets of respiratory therapy on inpatients and outpatients as prescribed by the physician and following departmental policies and procedures. Performs additional ! duties as required or assigned by supervisory personnel. The Registered Respiratory Therapist must be able to recognize the special age-related needs of all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of respiratory care theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of respiratory equipment used to administer or monitor patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions in order to establish a safe working environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of respiratory care in order to provide on-going patient care. Ability to speak, read, write, spell, and comprehend English. Ability to utilize email and electronic forms of communication effectively, as appropriate. Skill in development in identifying problems and recommending possible solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and respon! ding to relationships with patients, nursing staff, medical st! aff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
Education: Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy training program. Minimum of an Associate degree (Bachelor's preferred) in Respiratory Therapy or Applied Science required or grandfathered through the registry as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
License/Certification/Registration: Credentialed by State of Pennsylvania as a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner. Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Registry eligible Respiratory Care Practitioner. Must complete National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) requirements within one year of employment. American Heart Association certification for Basic Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support ! (Per diem employee excluded from Neonatal Advanced Life Support requirement). Current PA driver's license required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds. Occasionally pushes or pulls items weighing over 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Work usually completed in patient's hospital room. Occasional travel to skilled nursing facility or patient's home. Work rotating shifts and campus locations, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage (per campus location). Requires frequent exposure to blood or blood products, bodily fluids, or communicable diseases. Exposure protection available and mandated. "
