MRI Services Assistant

Location: Doylestown, Pennsylvania

PURPOSE OF JOB: With consideration for age-specific responsibilities to include infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric, anticipate the needs of our patients, referri! ng physicians and hospital associates by providing MRI safety information and advice. Schedules, registers and provides financial services. Provides this seamless activity through the collaboration of patients, physicians, payers and other hospital services.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Schedules MRI procedures.

2. Screens all patients for ferrous and RF-sensitive material before scheduling.

3. Collects all relevant co pays for exam

4. Uses RIS system to document and scan patient history and paperwork

5. Registers patients.

6. Provides clerical support as needed for radiologists

JOB CRITERIA AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
1. Schedules MRI procedures

  • Schedules patients for imaging procedures including explanation of the procedure to be performed.
  • Uses Meditech system to find the first available appointment.
  • Provides patients with directions and preservice instr! uctions, including need for lab values if necessary.
  • ! Confirms all scheduled appointments.
  • Transfers all information from Meditech to the RIS system
2. Screens all patients for ferrous and RF-sensitive material before scheduling.

  • Uses consistent and appropriate technique to gather relevant information from patients, medical records, and significant others to assure patient safety within the MRI environment.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for the management of patients with biomedical implants and devices that are electrically, magnetically or mechanically activated.
  • Provides revenue to the hospital and operates within the confines of the department budget.
  • Completes pre-certification and benefit verification according to established policies and procedures.
  • Communicates insurance benefits and financial responsibility to patients.
  • Monitors supply usage according to established policies and procedures 100% of the time.
  • Docume! nts and records relevant patient history and prior studies.
  • Utilizes all available relevant technology competently.
  • Makes recommendations for best use of existing and new technology.
5. Registers patients in accordance with current Hospital policy and procedure.

  • Uses two forms of identification
  • Provides copies of Hipaa notification
  • Armbands all patients.
  • Assist patient with MRI specific paperwork
6. Provides clerical support as needed for radiologists and file room.

  • Prepares completed study for radiologist interpretation.
  • Researches relevant prior studies and obtains reports and film copies if needed.
  • Obtains film jackets from file room if needed.
  • Faxes reports to ordering physican if requested.
  • Serves as liaison between ordering physician and radiologist as to correct study to be ordered, and approval of stat studies to be added to sche! dule.
Job Qualifications:
. Education: Hig! h School or equivalent is required

B. Experience: 3 years hospital billing or registration experience.

Knowledgeable in MRI Ferrous and RF sensitive material to properly screen patients

for MRI examination.

Knowledgeable in MRI procedures.

C. Other Skills: Excellent customer skills.

Ability to negotiate and problem solve.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Excellent communication skills.

Good math and analytical skills.

Ability to work productively as part of team.

D. Training required once hired: Doylestown Hospital Orientation

Registration, Scheduling, Financial, Meditech Education

Training period once hired: 5-7 months
