UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Full-Time Supervisor, Pharmacy Technical to help support the PUH-Pharmacy Department for its UPMC Presbyterian location.
Supervise the dail! y operational functions of the department, specifically the Medication Delivery Assistants. Act as liaison between pharmacists, physicians, and other health professionals on matters pertaining to pharmacy operational activities and patient care. Assume supervisory responsibility for department employees engaged in providing pharmacy operational activities to the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Assure high quality, accurate, expedient, and complete pharmacy services for centralized and
daily activities of the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
- Oversee the packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications for all patients according to
procedures and is alert to opportunities to improve the quality and extent of pharmacy services
- Prepare, implement, and monitor the capital and operating fiscal budgets
- Assist the Director in recruitment of pharmacy staff. Ensure that all of the staff are oriented to
employees and conduct annual performance appraisals. Identify personnel and performance
problems and when appropriate counsels employees and initiates disciplinary and/or
corrective action in conjunction with the Director
- Coordinate or perform all pharmacy scheduling activities to assure adequate coverage to
- In conjunction with Pharmacy Leadership, provide or direct the provision of training necessary
employee potential and proficiency, and facilitates personal and professional growth
- Establish and maintain effective communication mechanisms within the department to ensure
- Oversee the purchasing and inventory control function. Determine drug quantity stock level and
concerning procurement and purchasing of controlled substances
- Ensure department compliance with all regulatory requirements including JCAHO,
compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations with regard to the practice of pharmacy
- Ensure patient safety through ensuring appropriate staffing so that pharmacy department
account for employee sick time, leaves, vacations, etc., and/or periods of high patient census
- Remain abreast of developments in the field through continuing education, professional
organizations and on staff. Remain abreast of developments in the changing environment of
healthcare with regard to pharmaceutical services
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- 4 years total experience: 2 years of hospital operations experience plus 2 years of supervisory
- Experience in a pediatric hospital pharmacy practice preferred
- Analytical/problem solving ability necessary to participate in the development of department
- Participate in the analyses of operational problem and proposals and direct inventory control.
- Interper! sonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, communicate with

- Ability to work independently
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner to manage multiple projects
