UPMC Mercy is hiring a Full-Time Interventional Radiology Tech to help support the Mercy-Interventional Radiology Department for its UPMC Mercy location.

Under the general direction of the supervisor, the Special Procedures Technologist I assists the radiologist in performing a variety of invasive procedures on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Performs a variety of radiographic special procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision and requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Uses both computer programmed and manual equipment during technique selection and imaging. Operates a variety of monitoring and nursing equipment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Covers standby and call for emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co-workers. Consistently demonstrate the behaviors as outlined in the C.A.R.E. Team program. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Communicates effectively and concisely with all members of the UPMC healthcare team. Utilize good listening and communication skills.
Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all special procedures examinations. Adjust to fluctuation in workload. Demonstrate a clear understanding of proper patient preparation procedures, equipment operation and of all patient monitoring equipment. Perform sterile tray set up and operates pressure injector. Perform non-technical duties.

  • Manage multiple tasks, set priorities and utilizes good planning skills so that time is utilized efficiently and productively. Minimizes examination turnaround time so that patient throughput is not delayed. Performs miscellaneous reading room duties.
  • Develop Team Dynamics and teamwork Exhibit objectivity and openness to other views accepts criticism and feedback. Contribute to building a positive team spirit by assisting co-workers and offering assistance on an ongoing basis. Put success of team above own interests and receives training on team building.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation routinely. Completes all RIS information accurately. Communicated patient flow on master scheduling board.
Available for duty per departmental guidelines for sick time, tardiness and manpower requirements. Adjusts personal schedule so that the timely completion of patient procedures can be accomplished.

Follow all UPMC and department policies and procedures. Provide guidance to co-workers in the absence of immediate supervisor. Request additional duties/special projects. Attends all required in-services and participates in the elective in-services that are offered. Participate in training new and/or less experienced staff. Suggest and /or presents in-services.

  • Participate in the Patient Safety Program and the Quality Improvement program of the department and hospital activities. Looks continually for opportunities to improve processes and systems. Perform job functions thoroughly and accurately. Display commitment to service improvement. Patient safety is addressed through marking sides on films, marking side site and proper identification of patients.
Basic Qualifications

  • The technologist must be registered in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or be registry eligible.
  • The ARRT registered tech will be given 18 months from date of hire to gain specialty registration.
ARRT registry eligible technologist must be ARRT registered within 6 months of hire and attain specialty certification within 18 months of passing ARRT.
