POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor/Coordinato! r and provides required support for physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. The Licensed Practical Nurse assists with all duties related to patient care and takes a hands-on approach with regards to administering medication, dressing wounds and general patient care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures. 2. Reviews patient charts, checks patients in, obtains and records patients' weight, blood pressure, urine samples, blood samples, and medical history, and assesses reasons for patient visits. 3. Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions. 4. Administers medications; applies sterile dressings. 5. Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies, as appropriate to the position. 6. Educates patients regarding health-related issues. 7. Prepares laboratory spe! cimens for delivery and receives results for processing in the! patientâs medical record. 8. Responds to patient emergencies. 9. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. 10. Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients' charts. 11. Schedule follow up appointments, consults, tests as needed. 12. Performs other related duties deemed necessary by the Site Supervisor/Coordinator.
Position Requirements
Education and Experience: - High school degree. - Accredited LPN Diploma. - Six months to one years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. - State of Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse. - Maintains current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. - Knowledge of clinical and/or surgical operations and documentation. - Skill in performing clinical and medical procedures. - Knowledge of ! patient evaluation and triage procedures. - Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. - Ability to safely lift, and physically manipulate patients. - Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. - Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids. - Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. - Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols. - Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. - Strong patient satisfaction orientation. Physical Demands: - Individual must be able to meet the established specific physical requirements which include reaching, lifting, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, standing, walking. - Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds con! stantly to move objects.
