Job Summary:
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner under the direction of! the Clinical Service Chief and Division Chief, and the protocols established by the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine will be responsible for the complete care of NICU patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Hahnemann University Hospital on a rotation basis. The NNP will function in a role equivalent to a neonatal fellow. A minimum of 40 hours per week with additional time required to fulfill responsibility of the position. Variable hours of duty (i.e., to include evening, night and weekend shifts) may be necessary. Twenty-four/seven accountability to the patient/family, nursing and medical colleagues for one’s expert knowledge, judgment, and/or directing patient family care.

Skills & Abilities:
The NNP will be able to perform any nursing function performed by the NICU nursing staff; resuscitate babies in the NICU and delivery room; write orders on patients; obtain body fluid samples for appropriate laboratory testing; institut! e necessary therapy as per established protocols; perform proc! edures that he/she has been trained to do; function under the supervision of one of the neonatologists; attend high risk deliveries; complete care of all patients in the NICU and function in a role equivalent to that of a resident physician; write daily progress notes in the medical chart, etc.

Qualifications

:

Training & Education:
Incumbent required to have completed a master’s level course in an accredited nursing school as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP). This person will either be board eligible or board certified by NCC. The NNP will be licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The NNP will assist in the training of medical students and residents, along with assisting the maternal/child nurse educator in the inservicing of the nursing staff.

Experience:
Strong previous NICU â€" Level III experience required.
