The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a Bioinformatics Director in the Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMi). The Director'! s primary function is to determine innovative and sustainable ways for molecular data and knowledge to be generated and integrated into clinical activities. The position heavily aligns with CHOPs goal of genome-enabled medicine and reflects the Research Institutes innovation in genomic technologies, clinical diagnostics, and the practical application of progressive research findings to medical practice. CHOP is deeply committed to translational molecular medicine, including a fully integrated electronic health record, a sizable genomics capacity, a strong commitment to sequence-based genome diagnostics, the worlds largest pediatric biobank, and internationally renowned clinical pediatric expertise.
In collaboration with senior CBMi and CHOP research leadership, the candidate will be responsible for leading strategic informatics initiatives involving bioinformatics research; engaging with and recruiting members of CHOPs healthcare provider communities as stakeholder! s for the utilization of molecular knowledge in the pediatric ! clinical environment; developing effective workflows for generating, analyzing, and delivering actionable genomics and functional genomics information to researchers and clinicians; and seeking out mechanisms for collaboration by leading funded research initiatives to achieve these goals. The candidate will also interface with administrative offices to continually address issues of privacy and security, genetic counseling, intellectual property, and other ethical, legal, and social aspects of genomic medicine. The successful candidate will have a robust academic background and publication record in the area of informatics, genomics, and/or translational medicine and will serve as a key informatics-based representative for the institution. Opportunities for transition to a faculty appointment through the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine are possible for appropriately qualified candidates.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- MD or PhD, with specia! lization in one or more areas of biomedical informatics, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a closely related field.
- 10 or more years of experience in a lead research or biomedical position.
- Strong academic achievement and publication record.
- Demonstrated leadership of institutional initiatives and research projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge in current challenges in genomic medicine, including technical, regulatory and privacy, and legal areas.
