The Chief Medical Information Officer is responsible for advising and monitoring the planning and implementation of clinical information systems and performance improvement consistent with the values, missions and strategic plan of Children¿s Hospital of Pittsburgh. This position reports to the Vice President, Medical Affairs and works in conjunction with the Chief Information Officer (CIO); Vice President, Quality and Performance Improvement; and the Vice President, eRecord, UPMC Health Systems to represent the Medical Staff and other health care team members in relations to information technology.
Responsibilities
- Serves as principal advisor to the CMO, CIO and other Information Technology s! taff with
medical practices at CHP and affiliated organizations. Has responsibility to recommend
alterations and designs for information systems material to patient care.
- Provides leadership in the areas of planning, development, preparation and implementation of strategic and tactical clinical information systems for CHP, including but not limited to: medical archival and retrieval system (MARS), physician order entry documentation; databases ¿ hospital wide, divisional and departmental; other clinical systems including the development of a computerized patient record.
- Provides physician leadership using clinical data to monitor proactive variations to revise and develop clinical guidelines and best practices.
- Provides physician leadership using clinical data to improve quality of care consistent with CHP¿s strategic initiatives to be a high reliability organization.
- Serves as Chai! r of the CHP Physician Advisory Committee and Children¿s Net Committee and Co-Chair of Quality Council.
- Works in collaboration with the CIO and the hospital¿s research community to facilitate the use of computerized applications in medical research.
- Doctorate in pediatrics or pediatric sub specialty
- 10 years of experience in the field of Information Technology
