To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a m! ulti-phase expansion to create a children’s hospital like no! other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.

The Medical Assistant II provides assistance to providers in the offices. This assistance includes, but is not limited to, data collection for patient intake, assisting with provider/patient needs during procedures, and basic documentation of the encounter. The Medical Assistant II is responsible for assisting with clerical activities related to appointment scheduling, patient intake including data verification, and office communications.

The Medical Assistant II provides assistance to providers in the Bryn Mawr Specialty Care office primarily with limited travel to Newtown Square as needed. This assistance includes, but is not limited to, data collection for patient intake.

Greets patients and families at the clinical setting according to AIDET. Systematically checks fami! lies in and out (as applicable).

Performs and documents patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, chief complaint). Performs and documents patient intake specific to the vitals needed for that specialty (i.e., height, weight, head circumference, BP, ECG, reason for visit, complaint, etc.).

Assists providers with procedures specific to that specialty, including, but not limited to, suturing, suture removal, sterile procedures, minor surgical procedures and casting/splinting.

Performs phlebotomy, via venipuncture or capillary techniques, to obtain blood specimens.Transcribes, collects, labels and arranges transport for lab specimens. Performs back office laboratory tests.

Performs check-in and check out process.

Enters and/or verifies patient/guarantor demographic and insurance information.

Schedules/cancels/reschedules patients' appointments. Approp! riately statuses patient in computer system.

Handles phone cal! ls to/from patients, physician offices, insurance companies, internal customers, etc., utilizing proper telephone etiquette.

Obtains authorization for ancillary and specialty services from insurance carriers and documents actions taken appropriately.

Collects payments from patients, including copayments, current charges and prior account balances; posts charges; provides receipts; and documents all financial transactions, including charge entry at checkout. Prepares daily cash reconciliation and bank deposits. Ensures work queues are up-to-date.

Preps chart 3 days prior to scheduled appointment by requesting lab/x-ray results and doctors' notes.

Accepts assignments and travels to Newtown Square location if needed to perform clinical duties.

Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
