University of the Sciences is located in University City , which is also the site of two m ajor research universities, a n academic healthcare system and the oldest and largest Science Center in the United States which provide a rich variety of clinical and research opportunities for students and faculty. T! he campus is minutes from the culturally vibrant center of Phi! ladelphia . University of the Sciences is internationally recognized for its unique range of life science and health science majors within the Universityâs five colleges. The Samson College comprises Occupational Therapy, Exercise Science and Wellness Management , Healt h Science, Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant Studies, and offers fully accredited undergraduate and graduate programs leading to bachelorâs, masterâs and doctoral degrees. The hallmark of the Samson College programs is the hands-on learning and experience-based curriculum that all students participate in t hrough fieldwork in a variety of settings.
The Department of Occupational Therapy:
The Department of Occupational Therapy has 11 full-time faculty members, enrolls over 200 students and offers 3 programs: an accelerated Bachelorâs Degree to DrOT, a post-baccalaureate Masterâs Degree in Occupational Therapy and a post-baccalaureate DrOT program. The Department i s one of! a small number of programs in the country to offer an entry-level professional doctoral program . The program has clinical affiliation agreements with more than 200 field sites including healthcare systems, schools and community settings. Occupational Therapy students obtain experiential learning in hospitals, community outreach programs, senior centers and rehabilitation centers. Faculty members are engaged in applied research in the areas of maternal and infant health, au t ism, pediatric occupational therapy, tele - rehabilitation, spinal cord injury and intervention models for the well elderly.
T he Position:
Reporting to the Dean of the Samson College of Health Sciences , t he Chair will be a senior academic leader who provides leadership and oversight of academic programs, strategic planning, research , fiscal responsibilities and mentorship of faculty. This individual will be responsible for provid ing vision to the faculty and staff, developing ! new programs, and pursuing scholarly activity that advances the departm! entâs reputation towards applied research and commitment to social and community engagement. The Chair will maintain the high quality of the academic programs , ensure compliance with accreditation requirements, encourage and foster faculty research and support interdisciplinary collaboration within the College and across the University. He/She will play a significant role in shaping the future of the department and shou ld possess demonstrated leadership skills, the ability to gain consensus, e xcellent communication skills and ability to build collaborativ e relationships internally and external to the University. The ideal candidate will have contributed to the knowledge of the field through a record of research and publications.
Applicants must possess academic credentials consistent with appointment at the associate or full professor level . The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field along with eligibility for l! icensure in Pennsylvania . Must have a Bachelorâs Degree or Masterâs Degree in Occupational Therapy. A t least 8 years experience as an Occupational Therapist and at minimum 5+ years experience in an academic faculty position required. This individual will have successfully functioned in a leadership role at a university in administration or chaired various committees within a college of health sciences . Prior Chair or Assistant Chair experience is highly desired.
